Day 1: Beijing (L)

Day 2: Beijing (B, L)

History and Description

 

Built from 550-577 during the Northern Qi Dynasty and rebuilt in the Ming Dynasty. Simatai Great Wall was redone in the Hongwu years by General Qi Jiguang.
The eastern side of the Simatai Great Wall is steep and treacherous, so, many towers were built for better safety and security.
Goats were loaded down with bricks and herded up the mountain so that the Simatai section of the Great Wall could be completed. Simatai Great Wall is very important for the location of the Gubeiko pass in the eastern part.

Significant Towers

 

The Tower 15 is the most beautiful tower of all towers on Simatai Great Wall. Sky Bridge is the narrow trail that connects Tower 15 to the Watching Beijing Tower. On clear nights, tourists can see the lights of Beijing from this highest summit.
The bricks in the wall stand as a live history, they are stamped with date they were made and the code numbers of the armies that made them in the years of the Ming Dynasty.

Simatai Great Wall is divided into two parts by Simatai Reservoir, over which a chain bridge runs through east to west.
